1. YouTube Provides New Insight into Using Shorts to Improve Channel Performance

YouTube has released updated answers to frequently asked questions regarding Shorts, its rapidly growing short-form content option that is currently viewed by over 1.5 billion YouTube users each month.

2. Instagram’s Chief exec says the company will halt its full-screen format test and reduce AI-recommended posts.

Kylie Jenner tweeted a post with her 360 million Instagram followers earlier this week in support of a new petition to ‘Make Instagram Instagram Again,’ and return the app to how it was before the platform began injecting far more video and recommended content into people’s home feeds.

That petition, which has over 296k supporters, asks Instagram to:

  • •Stop Trying To Be Tiktok!
  • •An Algorithm That Favors Photos!
  • •A Platform That Listens To Creators!

Instagram Cheif Adam Mosseri reacted, noting that, while he recognizes that some people are annoyed by the changes, they are based on usage data, and as such, Instagram will remain with them in order to line with people’s interests.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took it a step further, stating that the quantity of information given to users based on AI recommendations (i.e. accounts you don’t follow) will more than double in the coming year.

This is increasingly where things are heading, as Meta stated again on July 29.

Mosseri appears to have changed his mind on this.

Mosseri indicated to Casey Newton for Platformer on July 29 that Instagram will take a step back from recommended content and full-screen, TikTok-like viewing experience.

Mosseri claims:

“For the new feed designs, people are frustrated and the usage data isn’t great. So there I think that we need to take a big step back, regroup, and figure out how we want to move forward.”

“When you discover something in your field that you didn’t follow before, there should be a high bar – it should just be great. You should be delighted to see it, and I don’t think that’s happening enough right now. So I think we need to take a step back, in terms of the percentage of feed that are recommendations, get better at ranking and recommendations, and then – if and when we do – we can start to grow again.”

3. YouTube has added a new option for shortening long-form videos for Shorts

YouTube wants to encourage more short clips by introducing a new option that allows artists to turn chunks of their existing long-form material into minute-long Shorts variants.

As seen in this image, the new ‘Edit into a Short’ option allows you to choose a segment of your standard video uploads to edit into a bite-sized version.

This might make it much easier for many more YouTube artists to include Shorts into their workflow – and with 1.5 billion YouTube users already engaging with Shorts each month, it makes a lot of sense to do so in order to increase brand exposure and reach.

4. Google adds Pros/Cons for Reviews in Search snippets

Google has updated the way search Results of products appear. It will now show the Pros/cons of the product in the Search Snippet.


“Product reviews are a valuable resource for users researching which product to buy. Product reviews often contain a list of pros and cons, which our research has shown to be popular with shoppers when making their purchasing decisions. Because of their importance to users, Google Search may highlight pros and cons in the product review snippet in Search results.”

Along with this, Google has provided the Pros and Cons of Structured data in the update, But it is not compulsory for you to use it to qualify for this.

Google can detect it as long as your Review page contains it, but it will prioritize those who provide it in the structured data format.

“If you do not provide structured data, Google may try to automatically identify pros and cons listed on the web page. Google will prioritize supplied structured data provided by you over automatically extracted data. We tested this with website owners, and received positive feedback on this capability.”
